SYSTEM OF A DOWN's SERJ TANKIAN Makes Big Radio Debut
September 13, 2007The Pulse of Radio (formerly Launch Radio Networks) reports: SYSTEM OF A DOWN vocalist Serj Tankian is already making a strong impact as a solo artist. The single "Empty Walls" from his upcoming solo debut, "Elect The Dead", was the most heavily added track to rock radio playlists this week. Tankian told The Pulse of Radio why he chose to record these particular songs for this album out of the many that he's written over the years: "I've been writing music for a long time, and I have hundreds and hundreds of unreleased songs, and I have a studio and I always write for pleasure. And these were songs that felt very classical in terms of songwriting for me, and ones that I could really sing on emotionally, that kind of required my voice as a singer. So that's why I picked these songs from my archives."
"Elect The Dead" arrives in stores on October 23.
Tankian is doing a video for every song on the album, and has asked a group of directors, painters and digital artists to each create one of the dozen clips. The videos will be posted at SerjTankian.com over the next few months.
Tankian recently put together a live band featuring former GUNS N' ROSES and PRIMUS drummer Brian "Brain" Mantia and PRIMUS guitarist Larry Lalonde.
The singer showed up at the FOO FIGHTERS' suite during the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards last Sunday night (September 9) to perform the DEAD KENNEDYS' "Holiday In Cambodia" with the FOOS.
